Additional Opportunities

Certified Nursing Assistant
The Certified Nursing Assistant program prepares students for employment in long-term care facilities, home health agencies and hospitals where basic bedside nursing care is needed. Classroom instruction includes an introduction to health care, essential OBRA skills required for certification, body structure and function and the job-seeking process, with an introduction to computer skills as they relate to the health care industry. Students participate in clinical activities at approved facilities under the supervision of the instructor.

Upon successful completion of this program, students qualify for certification as nursing assistants and placement into the State of Louisiana Nurse Assistant Registry under the Louisiana Board Educators of Nursing Facility Administrators (LABENFA).
This program is offered in the first semester of the Patient Care Technician Program.  Please refer to the Patient Care Technician page for additional information.

Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research and blood donations. Some explain their work to patients and provide assistance when patients have adverse reactions after their blood is drawn. Phlebotomists work mainly in hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers and doctor’s offices.

Phlebotomists typically enter the occupation with a post-secondary non-degree award from a phlebotomy program. Almost all employers look for phlebotomists who have earned professional certification. According to the Bureau of Labor, employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 27 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. Hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers and other locations will need phlebotomists to perform blood work.

This program is offered within our Patient Care Technician Program.  Please refer to the Patient Care Technician page for additional information.  Upon completion, students may be eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association certification exam in Phlebotomy.
